Civil rights

Today I was inspired by my journey of discovery about the civil rights movement. We had the opportunity today to speak to some veterans of the sanitation workers strike in Memphis and learn more about AFSCME the union that helped unite them to bring about change in the city of the treatment and conditions footer the workers. Yesterday was busy from 7 in the morning to midnight seeing the Lorraine motel where Martin Luther King Jr. was shot, Stax records museum, and speaking with many people working and fighting for the rights of all people even today. It's been an inspirational trip and I can't wait to see weekday happens next!

The zombies today are fighting for their rights as human like beings.

Day 3 on the road

Today I left for the civil rights bus tour at 6 this morning and have been on a bus all day. Currently staying in a church in Memphis. The trip has been a great trip so far.

I decided to use another prompt from the book to turn my favorite animal into a zombie. So here I have am owl zombie on paper plate because I have no drawing paper for the trip. I will definitely want to further explore the possibilities of the animal zombie more this year.

Day 2

Today's zombie is made from a cup I got at Starbucks (grande if you're wondering). I like using upcycled materials for these projects, I feel like I'm both working on my creativity and saving the environment, one paper cup at a time! I'm not good at the faces and drawing thing, but I feel like I have great ideas, if everything looked in reality like it does in my head, this would be really awesome. It is easy to underestimate the tediousness of drawing a horde in the background. It was more time consuming and took a little more thought than I anticipated. This project took about 30 minutes to think up and complete.

Tomorrow I should be leaving for a bus trip around the south to learn about the civil rights movement, so we'll see what I can come up with on the road. I'll be gone for a week, so hopefully I can bring enough supplies and find materials to work with.

Day 1

Today's prompt from Noah Scalin's book was to create something that would fit in the palm of your hand with materials available in your immediate environment. I made this little guy from a paper towel, masking tape and felt markers.

I don't think I will be following all of the prompts, or maybe not doing them in order, but I thought this was a good place to get started. I do like that I could do this in about 10 minutes and have a finished project to go along side my many, many incomplete and in progress creative endeavors.
